F.A.Q. Frequently Asked Questions

Do Dr. Fox & Dr. Cool recommend an electric toothbrush or a manual toothbrush?

While manual tooth brushing can work well for some patients, the majority of patients would experience greater oral health with the use of an electric toothbrush. The right electric toothbrush can provide excellent oral health benefits that cannot be achieved with a manual toothbrush. Specifically, the Philips Sonicare improves gum health while being gentle in areas of gum recession if used correctly.

Why don’t Dr. Fox & Dr. Cool simply remove baby teeth when they have cavities, rather than placing fillings?

Baby teeth have a variety of functions:

  1. They preserve space for adult teeth (if baby teeth are lost prematurely, the space for adult teeth may be lost and prevent these teeth from erupting)
  2. They help guide the growth and development of the jaws
  3. They allow children to effectively chew and therefore receive required nutrients
  4. They play a vital role in speech development

Dr. Fox & Dr. Cool recommend that children make their first visit to the dentist at approximately 2 years of age.

Why do Dr. Fox & Dr. Cool suggest that it is important to maintain good oral health?

There is an undeniable link between oral health and your general health. Gum disease (periodontitis) in particular, is an inflammatory condition which can contribute to heart disease, diabetes, and having pre-term low birth-weight babies. Furthermore, any infections that develop in the mouth can travel to other parts of the body and cause severe generalized infections. Therefore, Dr. Fox & Mistry recommend that you maintain a consistent oral hygiene and care routine as part of a healthy lifestyle.

What does Dr. Fox and Dr. Cool recommend for TEETH WHITENING (bleaching)?

Dentist-supervised whitening procedures that are done in-office or at-home are the most popular these days. They provide the highest degree of whitening (when compared to off-the-shelf strips) with little or no chance of sensitivity. In addition, they are easy to use and reasonably priced. Dr. Fox and Dr. Cool would be happy to advise you on which type of application is appropriate for you based on your specific needs.
